Al-Jidaydah area is a historic area in Aleppo that is near many attractions such as the majestic Aleppo Citadel, many Aleppine historic souqs (marketplace) which have amazing hammams (oriental spa), and antique and silverware shops. This area was destroyed by Tamerlane in the 1400s. Al-Jidaydah was inhabited with Christians before the Mongol invasion. Therefore, this quarter contained historic Churches.
After the former Christian inhabitants fled outside the city walls to a northwestern region of what has become part of Aleppo today, Al-Jidaydah was rebuilt by local brokers and has flourished into a highly developed quarter that has enchanting oriental palaces and courtyard houses. Many historic buildings in the Al-Jidaydah area were restored and converted to elegant museums, schools, hotels, and restaurants.
